Monitoring for fuel system deficiencies like leaks, low product levels, and slow flow rates certainly isn’t a new concept for any marketer. Any of these conditions can lead to serious ramifications for your business. Treating corrosion in diesel tanks is no different as it poses the same level of consequences if left unchecked.

Many top marketers are now deploying corrosion detection devices in their tank ullage spaces to get out ahead of excessive corrosion before it has a chance to run rampant throughout their diesel fuel systems. As part of the Corrosion Control™ System, the Corrosion Detection Sensor provides automated notification of a corrosive environment so marketers can detect and react sooner.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

  1. Installed in the tank ullage space, the sensor employs a replaceable sacrificial metal screen that will begin to corrode in the presence of a corrosive tank environment.

  2. An integrated LED inside the sensor is positioned to direct light through the sacrificial screen.

  3. The amount of light that passes through the screen is reflected to an integrated photodetector.

  4. As the screen corrodes, less light passes through it. The photodetector senses a reduction in light, indicating the presence of corrosion.

  5. An automated alarm is then sent via an EVO™ so action can be taken.

WHAT DO I DO NEXT?

Once corrosion has been detected in your diesel tank ullage space, a likely culprit is the presence of water within the tank. Water can gain entry to the tank through fuel drops and ground/surface intrusion. Check out how the Corrosion Control™ Water Separator can help remove water from the system and prevent further corrosion here.

HOW TO GET THE CORROSION DETECTION SENSOR
